Acer’s Iconia Tab W500 made its debut in Brunei just last week finally creating some competition as till now Apple’s slate has been ruling the market and the Sultanate has been waiting for Motorola Xoom, Blackberry Playbook, 10 inch tall Samsung Galaxy Tab to enter the market and take the place of iPad.

The Iconia Tab W500 made its debutant appearance as Acer’s product launch last week. It’s sales will start up very soon as the main distributor of Acer Computers of the sultanate, namely Concepts Computers is all set to start selling the tablet this month itself in order to provide an alternative option in the tablet market by bringing the Windows 7 based tablets from Acer as soon as possible as right now, Apple’s iPad has monopoly over the market.

Zul Abdul Rahman, Concept Computer’s marketing executive believes that tablets are a part of today’s trend and the present generation but since Brunei doesn’t have much options, people buy iPad and other similar products like Motorola Xoom, etc have not yet hit the market, so this launch will add up a new option.

Acer’s Iconia Tab W500 is a 10 inch tall Tab offering an innovative hybrid design that lets you use it in the form of a multi touch tablet or work with it like a laptop when you dock it into the keyboard. The device has a 1GHZ dual core c-50 AMD Fusion processor, an expandable RAM of 2GB, and a Radeon HD 6250 graphics core put together into the processor. It has a battery life of six hours and is priced at $778.

What will make it an instant success are some of the exciting features of the tab. First of all, it runs a full Windows 7 Home Premium OS and not the modified mobile OS which is used by other tablets like iPad and Android tablets. One can consider it as a full fledged computer on which one can perform any kind of task that one performs on a normal computer. Second, it runs on Windows 7 which is the most widely used OS in Brunei and world wide thus arising no compatibility issues. And finally, its low price makes it affordable which will make it popular among the students and undergraduates in the Sultanate.

Zul said that it will work like a laptop, a tablet, and even a notebook for the price of one which will surely help it create a great place in the market. He also informed that Iconia Tab will also be available in Android version in Brunei; however, it will only be available in the market after a few months. Iconia Tab A500, the Android version of the tab will run on Android OS dubbed ‘Honeycomb’ especially meant for the tablet.

Along with Iconia Tab, Acer also introduced its Iconia 484G64 dual touchscreen laptop in Brunei last week. The Concepts Computer will also start selling it soon. It will be priced at $1,688.

Acer has recently released its Iconia Tab A500 officially. It is a tablet of 10.1 inch that will challenge the ones from Apple and Motorola. Acer is projecting it as the best known device that accompanies you when you browse the web, read e-books, access your social networks, listen to music, watch videos, play games, and lot more. This move seems obvious as far as the features of the product are concerned.

Iconia Tab A500 works on Android 3.0 Honeycomb and has a dual core Nvidia Tegra 250 system on Chip of 1 GHz, which works as quick as is needed to make a video of 1080p playback as well as for the working of mobile games. The same are being used by Motorola’s Xoom. Along with the slate, Acer is offering installation of free copies of Need for Speed: Shift and Let’s Golf out of which the first one is otherwise available at $5 when bought from the Android Market.

The slate offers a display of 1280×800 which comes with 80 degree viewing angles and possibility to use all 10 fingers while registering the inputs. It further offers a RAM of 1GB, internal storage of 16 GB (it is notable that the company has already started developing a 32 GB model), a microSD card reader with a capacity to handle around 32 GB cards, a rear camera of 5 MP that has auto-focus and flash and of course a front camera that is of 2 MP.

One gets multi-connectivity option which includes Wi-Fi, USB, Bluetooth, GPS, and HDMI-out. Though Acer hasn’t yet declared if the device has any WWAN options or not but it has been assumed that the device will be offering 3G or 4G at a premium. One can play games or watch videos for about eight hours and browse for about 10 hours once the device is charged.

Other than the already mentioned games, Iconia Tab A500 comes preloaded with Acer Clear.fi that makes it possible to quickly share media with other devices that are DLNA compliant and also supports Adobe Flash. But the device is heavier than the other tablets in the market. It weighs 1.69lbs and measures 10.24×6.97×0.52 inches.

One will have to wait till April, 14 for the device’s in-store preorders to start, but its online preorders have already started.  Its price starts at $449.99 whereas the accessories that comprises of a dock with an IR remote, a full sized Bluetooth keyboard, a protective case, and a power adapters set that has four connectors will be available at an extra price between $30 to $70. The device will finally launch on April, 24.
