Perhaps Lenovo is going to be the first Windows PC builders selling their ultrabook at a price less than Apple’s MacBook Air. This shows that the ultrabook battle is getting pretty heated up as the companies are found to be bringing out their products at lower prices. However, no other product has yet come to such lesser price.
Lenovo’s 14 inch “mainstream” ThinkPad ultrabook is going to be launched next year by the month of May or June at quite a less price around $800 which happens to undercut Apple’s MacBook Air. Its price will also be considerably lesser than the presently available model.
There will also be a 13 inch “Premium” model in continuation with the ThinkPadX1 which is scheduled to be brought out at about the same time. Both these ultrabooks will be using Ivy Bridge processor architecture from Intel and Chief River, which is a matching platform to the mentioned processor.
Along with this an interim update named ThinkPad X1 Hybrid, is also going to be out soon. You will get dual boot along with Windows and Android’s customized version with this 13 inch ultrabook just the way as is in the case of IdeaPad K1 however, the battery life is better in this case.
It is equally notable that with leaner mobile operating system it will be starting up quickly and the battery life will also be doubled to about 10 hours which will prove a boon to all those who use the system for music, web and e-mailing.
The price for this X1 Hybrid isn’t available yet but it is expected not to go below $1,199.
Lenovo seems to be creating some more price differences with some other ultrabook line which will go beyond current X1 and the IdeaPad U300. Currently, the ultrabooks that it is offering is found to be having functional equality with the 13 inch system from Apple and at the time they are found to be more expensive when compared to the other Windows alternatives available in the market, which is said to be going down to $899 for the ultrabooks models like Acer Aspire S3 and ASUS Zenbook UX21.

Other World Computing has recently broken the news about the release of the 6G Mercury Aura Pro Express, a 2011 MacBook Air replacement SSD which completely utilizes the 6Gbps SATA interface. It is available in 120GB and 240GB capacities. These new drives are a combination of a SandForce 2200 series controller and Tier 1/Grade A NAND memory which helps them to easily achieve a reading speed of 507MB/s and writing speed of 454MB/s making these almost twofold faster than the stock drive in MBAs.
Apple’s current MacBook Airs come with SATA 3Gbps SSDs and it doesn’t at all promote SATA 6Gbps even when the hardware has a support for it. As the non-standard SSD form factor is used by the ultra thin and light notebook, this disapproves the usage of the typical 2.5 inch drives available on the market as a replacement.
OWC claims that the new Aura Pro Express 6G SSD is going to be the first and only available 6Gbps SSD available on the market which is especially designed in such a way that it works well with the 11.1 inch as well as 13.3 inch models of Apple’s new MacBook Air.
Company also claims that the data protection that it provides is about 100 times more than what is provided by the ordinary SSD available in the market as it combines the highest level of Error Correction Code and SandForce RAISE technology together with an over-provisioning of about 7%.
The 120GB model is available at $345 and the 240GB model is priced at $600. There is also a plan of bringing out a model of 480GB capacity meant for 2011 MacBook Air, its launch date has not yet been announced.

Dell is again at war against Apple’s MacBook Air. Now it has come up with large screen ultra thin laptop which promises to perform better than Dell’s discontinued device Dell Adamo.
According to sources, the initial model with 15.6 inch screen will be making its debut appearance in the coming weeks and will be priced under $1,000, which is another important amelioration on Adamo’s ultra premium price.
Before the discontinuation of Dell Adamo a few month back, it got a lot of attention as a Windows based alternative to MacBook Air. However, it was much criticized for being an under-performing yet over-priced device as the deluxe version started at as high as $2,700.
Perhaps, Dell has learned a lesson from its unsuccessful Adamo as it discontinued the range and now it has come up with more and is well determined to bring out a totally new range of ultra performing and ultra thin laptops, as the sources say.
The upcoming model from Dell will be marketed as the first larger-screen ultra-thin laptop targeted to “prosumers”. This year has been an year for the rivals of MacBook Air as so many of the devices competing against MacBook have entered the market, these include business oriented ThinkPad X1, Curvy Samsung Series 9, and now finally Adamo which has copied the 13.3 inch form factor of MacBook.
The upcoming laptop from Dell will not only offer a larger display with high resolution but will also use Intel’s second generation Core i5 and i7 processors. Dell will be highlighting this new premium laptop as “style and beauty” as it will be made out of special materials.
This new series will not just offer 15.6 inch display but also some other screen sizes as well so that one can think of buying what’s suitable. Hope that this time Dell will not disappoint its consumers with the pricing and the performance of the series as it did earlier. It will be a good news for the Windows users as they’ll now have one more alternative to MacBook Air to choose!
