Use of USB 2.0 devices is supported by the Windows Virtual PC and for this the device is required to be shared or redirected to the virtual machine. Now you will be able to use any of the methods depending on the type of USB device you are going to use.

USB Device Driver

When you install the Integration Components package in the guest operating system, storage devices, printers, and smart card readers, all these are attached to the host and this is why they get automatically shared with the virtual machines. However, the drivers that are installed in the host as well as the guest operating systems, for them you don’t need any additional steps for using such USB devices, though printers are not included in this type.

You can use the other types of devices by simply redirecting them to the virtual machine. These types of USB devices include – digital cameras, phone/mobile/PDA device, wireless network adapters, MP3 players, portable media players, webcam/ video camera, etc.

Now, you’ll have to undergo the following steps for redirecting a USB device to a virtual machine:

1.        First of all, you’ll have to attach the device to the physical computer and get the device  turned on.

2.       Now click on the USB and then click on the Attach device name from your virtual machine window. This will make the Windows to look for the device driver in the guest operating system and then get it installed out there. A similar kind of installation can also be done either from the internet or from an installation disc.

3.       Once the driver is installed, the USB device can be used from within your virtual machine exactly in the way in which you would have it on a physical computer. But you need to be aware of the fact that when you connect the USB devices using these steps, you won’t be able to share them, so you will have to release them from one operating system in order to have them for use on the other operating system.

4.       And for creating the availability of the USB device on the host operating system, you’ll have to release it from the virtual machine for which you’ll have to click on the USB and then click on the Release device name from your present virtual machine window.

Also note when you have to redirect a USB device to a virtual application, you’ll have to attach the device and turn it on and after that right click on the virtual application icon present in the task bar of the host, and finally click on the Manage USB devices. And after this simply choose the device.

Technical advancement has brought new vistas of safety and security and today it is very easy to make your laptops and notebooks safe and secure with technologies such as fingerprint readers, face recognition, eye scanners etc. But is there any way to make your personal computer safe?

Here, you’ll find a simple trick that will let you lock your computer using a Usb. This will make your computer work only when you’ll plug in the Usb and once you’ll remove it the keyboard as well as the mouse will be disabled automatically and the screen will turn dark. And finally your computer will be locked automatically. And in order to unlock it, you will have to insert the Usb again.

You can use this trick on all the versions of Windows which include both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows.

So, here we go for the trick that will get your computer Locked with the help of Usb using Predator:-

Step 1. Download the predator software.

Step 2. Once the installation gets completed, Predator gets launched automatically but if it doesn’t happen so in your case, you always have the possibility to run it from – Start/Programs/Predators.

Step 3. After this step, you’ll have to insert your Usb. You will now receive a message asking you to define a new password for yourself. (At the same time it is notable that this won’t get your pendrive formatted and hence your pendrive data will not get lost by this.)

Step 4. Click on the Ok of the dialogue box after which another dialogue box will appear, simple Enter your new password in it.

Step 5. Make sure that the drive letter that gets displayed under “USB key drive” really matches your flash drive. Otherwise you can also select the correct letter from the dropdown list.

Step 6. This is the final step where you are simply required to click on the Create Key button and after that on the OK button.

Now, the software will automatically exit and after this you will just have to restart the program for which you’ll have to click its icon on the desktop. But remember, a few seconds will be needed in the initialization of Predator and when you’ll find the icon in the taskbar turned green, the software will have self initialized.

Many a times, it becomes essential for you to boot using a USB device. It can be because of any reason like you lose your Windows password and now you are in need of a password recovery program that you have burned to a USB Flash drive in order to reset the Windows password or there can also be a possibility that you are required to run Systems repair.

You might say that a CD or DVD can be used by default if Bios are not set before. But there are many such instances when you have no other option but to use a USB device. For instance, the DVD drive is broken or may be your system doesn’t have a DVD drive, in such cases you have no other option but to use a USB device. But booting from a USB device shouldn’t give you any head-ache as it is very easy to handle and doesn’t even take a lot of time.

Here are simple steps to have the booting done from a USB device.

Step 1:  Get the Bios setup changed

First of all you need to change the Bios Boot Order in order to get the USB device option listed. This kind of Bios setup by default is rarely possible. For this you will have to restart or simply turn on your computer and press Del or F2 before the Windows starts, this will let you enter your Bios setup.

When the Bios setup utilities appears, just locate as well as navigate the Bios Order Options present in your Bios. You will have to select the ‘Removable Devices’ and change its values to the first by using +or- option. After that press F10 in order to save the changes and Exit.

Step2: USB device insertion to the computer

For inserting the USB device, you’ll require a USB port which will be available on your computer.  It is as simple as A, B, C but before you actually inset it to your computer’s USB port, don’t forget to make sure that your USB device is bootable. It is again very simple to check and it simply follows the program that you are required to install.

Step3: Restart the System to boot from the USB Flash drive

This is the last step and requires you to do nothing but just ‘Restart’ your computer. Now if Bios setup change has been done successfully, your computer will boot properly from your USB device.
